Text Box: WHY TAKE A GAP YEAR?
Why not? What if you always keep dreaming what it will be like...

It is refreshing, inspiring, it looks great on your CV, brings real excitement in your life, you meet new friends, get to know new cultures, and it gives you a great opportunity to think about your future and find out what you really want out of life, education and work

Did we mention they are fun?
Ok, that’s enough of the parent pleasing, sensible reasons to take a gap year. On your time off you will meet new life long friends, experience moments of wonder, excitement, happiness, achievement, satisfaction, adrenaline and well being (and also the more character building: fear, apprehension, and discomfort from being thrust in to an unfamiliar environment).
By the time your time off ends, you will be gutted that it is over, yet excited that you took the opportunity (and there really is no better time in life to do it) and ready and refreshed for any of the challenges life throws at you.
After months having seen all you have seen, having experienced the challenges of the Xtreme Gap activities and associated travel with them, facing your university tutor, or future boss sat at his interview desk will be easy.

What Employers Say?
So the world of work is a distant reality, but you may well be aware that the graduate job market is competitive. A degree from a well established university once opened many doors, but in today's climate you need all the advantages you can get. Kind of tricky if you have only been in school all your life.

Good luck with your adventure.

A message from the founders.

I went to a  boarding school since the age of 13. A superb education affording me many opportunities. By the time I left school aged 18, I thought I was fully equipped to  take on the world... I knew nothing.  I had been living in a confined environment, for 5 years. To be honest, I was a liability in public. I did not know how to talk to people, girls were weird creatures that smelled nice and I genuinely believed everyone was the same as the people I went to school with: Middle class and fortunate in life.

I am so thankful for my gap year. I grew up: fast.  Imagine in six months going from the confines of a boarding house, to total freedom, in another world: the real world, with different cultures, with different rules. You learn pretty quickly that there is a world out there, populated by people and dogged with challenges and you had better know how to deal with them both.

I learnt fast as a result of spending 6 months in Africa, and it was a very valuable experience later on in life.

Text Box: Why take an Xtreme Gap Program and not just travel?
We LOVE travel, we can’t get enough of it. The world is amazing, and it is yours for the taking. Before you set off on your adventure consider the following. Travel can be expensive especially when moving constantly, even on a budget, it all adds up. By undertaking an Xtreme Gap program you will be centred a one location for a few months, this cuts down the costs of travel, really integrates you into the local community and gives you more time away on your limited budget. This is with out going in to the other benefits of self development fun and exhilaration that our programs provide. We are serious when we say we will give you more for less.
Text Box: WHAT DO UNIVERSITIES SAY?
Research has shown that universities, colleges and employers all look favourably on a year out providing it is structured and can demonstrate personal development or achievement. Generally speaking, students who have benefitted from a year out arrive at university more focussed and equipped to live independently away from home.

The number of people applying to universities (in the UK) is increasing: (The figures released by UCAS have shown 413,430 people were accepted onto undergraduate courses in 2007. This represents an increase of 5.8% compared to the previous year, with a further 22,540 embarking on higher-education courses than in 2006. The number of applicants to universities has grown to 534,495, a 5.6% rise.)

At the same time student debt upon leaving university is also increasing (averaging £17,500). Bearing this in mind, to stand a chance of gaining that illusive top postgraduate position you would be wise to equip yourself with demonstration of achievement. The kind achievements an Xtreme Gap activity has to offer.
