You are here: Home > Gap Year Destinations > Australia Gap Year AUSTRALIA GAP YEAR Spending time on an Australia gap year means lots of opportunity for adventure and extreme experiences. Escaping Europe to for the sun is just one advantage of an Australia gap year, the great beaches, superb diving, surfing, sky diving, unique wildlife, bungee jumping all adds up to one thing: and Xtreme Australia gap year you will never forget. Travelling around Australia on your gap yearAn Australia gap year provides you with some of the most exciting attractions on the planet. The Great Barrier Reef, Uluru (Ayers Rock), The Sydney Opera House, rainforests, the outback, unique wildlife, mountains and adventure sports, perfect for any adrenaline travel junkie on a gap year in Australia Many people take a gap year Australia to undertake work and travel. One suggested road trip is to fly into Perth, head north to Darwin, down to Alice Springs and then on to Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney (but don't spend any time in Sydney yet), Brisbane, Cairns and finally return to Sydney and go wild! This can be done by backpacker bus or hiring a car (such as spaceships available through www.Xtreme-Gap.com), which gives you more flexibility. Some Australia gap year takers choose to buy a car to travel round, although a word of caution this can be a risky business, as you are then liable for servicing and running your motor - kill your car and you loose all of your money or just as unfortunate is not being able to sell it. According to Tom Griffiths at Gap year.com: “The west coast has the dolphins at Monkey Mia and the Ningaloo Reef. The Northern Territory is the most beautiful part of Australia, so camp in Crocodile Dundee country and see the Aboriginal rock art in Kakadu National Park. From Alice Springs visit Uluru and Kings Canyon. Coober Pedy is a superb, remote opal mining town and a visit to the Neighbours set in Melbourne is a must. A trip to the rainforest, camping with the dingoes on Fraser Island, sailing the Whitsunday Islands and bungee jumping, rafting and diving the Barrier Reef will make the east coast unforgettable. The best places to find work are Sydney and Perth, and the "harvest trail" on the east coast. If you're staying for 12 months buy an "out of season" return ticket to Australia, not a round-the-world ticket as you could save more than £1,000; and sightseeing around Australia when it's not 40C is far more enjoyable.” |
